Step 1:
Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask these 6 questions…

  1. Can you provide information on the mental health services covered by my insurance?

  2. Is prior authorization from my doctor necessary to ensure coverage when seeing a clinician?

  3. What is my deductible/what is the current status of my deductible

  4. Do I need to pay out of pocket for mental health services until my deductible is fulfilled?

  5. Is my deductible applicable to both in network and out of network providers?

  6. How can I confirm whether the therapist I prefer is within the network?

Step 2:
Understanding your deductible

A deductible is the initial amount you need to pay from your own funds before your insurance starts covering your healthcare expenses. Deductibles vary, with some people having high ones, like $15,000, and others having lower ones, such as $250.

When it comes to mental health services, you might be responsible for the costs until your deductible is met, even if your provider is within your healthcare network.

It’s very important to ask your insurance: “What is the out-of-pocket expense before my insurance covers mental health services?” to avoid any confusion or unexpected expenses.

Step 3:
Out of pocket options.

If the therapist you’re interested in isn’t covered by your insurance or if your insurance doesn’t include mental health services, there’s still an option to pay out of pocket.

At Citrus City, we offer convenient payment methods including cash, credit cards, and HSA cards.
